Creating That Cozy Garden Tea Corner
Last year I decided to redo my little yard. Previously we had a pool but with the kids being older now they really didn’t use it anymore. After it was gone we were left with a very unappealing landscape indeed!
I decided to use pea stone within an irregularly shaped border. I laid out the shape I wanted, placed landscaping fabric down and hauled 2+ yards of pea gravel to fill in the main “conversation area”.
Aside from some hostas, a bleeding heart bush, cherry tree, and my lovely trumpet vine-the landscaping was very minimal.
I mostly did container gardening and hanging baskets last year-aside from planting a pretty flamingo tree (of course-with my love of pink I couldn’t resist the little pink tips on it!). This year I’ve added vines-honeysuckle, lonicera, passion flower and clematis. Most are now happily climbing on a wooden trellis that used to be above my ornately carved Polynesian marriage bed! This year our neighbour’s grape vine has come to visit over our fence in abundance! Bunches of grapes are now joining in the party.
Brightly coloured market umbrellas (pale blue and red), rattan furniture including a stand up bar, with pale blue cushions, some whimsical throw cushions, a red metal retro ice box, a matching metal lamp, strings of Edison lights. An oversized homemade outdoor art piece (shower curtain art) and painted fence and deck. And of course I needed to have some prominent pink accents-thus the spray painting of my little metal bistro set-I love it.
There you have my sweet little tea corner where I can sit with a friend to share a lovely cup of tea in some fine china-of course! In a future blog I will share the evolution of the small but mighty space. Do you have a tea corner in your garden?
